The Kent Youth League finals are the pinnacle of our season. Each and every year, clubs across the county battle it out for a spot at a #KYLFinals. Our competitions travel across the county, engaging clubs, players, coaches, parents and officials county-wide.

Without the support of partners and sponsors, the KYL Cup Finals simply wouldn’t be the outstanding occasions that they are. In supporting youth football, in turn as a League we like to welcome and host our sponsors at Cup Finals.

I’M A COMMITTEE MEMBER, GET ME OUT OF HERE!

The Kent Youth League is proud to support our charity partner for the 2019/20 season, Redthread. Redthread’s mission is to empower young people to thrive as they navigate the challenging transition to adulthood by integrating trauma-informed youth work into the health sector.

Since its formation in 1981, the Kent Youth League runs with the aim of giving our players an opportunity to showcase their talents in the best possible environments. With 195 teams across 16 Divisions and 6 Cup Competitions, we take great pride in running a League that provides a safe haven for young people to develop, both as footballers and as citizens in society.

We are now giving clubs the chance to bid to select a committee member to perform a range of challenges at their club. Each month, we will announce what the challenge is and by donating you’ll be putting in your bid to have your selected committee member complete an arduous task.

This month, have one of the KYL Committee come to your club to clean your team’s boots. You can pick between:

MARGATE FC ACADEMY OPEN TRIAL

Margate Academy players have recently been selected by Jay Saunders, as the set-up continues to grow from strength to strength in partnership with Herne Bay High.

Margate’s full-time Academy offers those aged 16 and above the chance to study A Levels and BTEC qualifications -with a total of 42 different courses on offer – whilst training and playing at HDP.

The players are developed ready for the first team, as Academy Manager Ricky Owen explained.

“Our Academy is growing from strength to strength and it is pleasing to see the boys’ hard work rewarded with first-team call ups. Opportunities have to be earned but the player pathway structure is now fully embedded and offers something to unique for those thinking about what they’d like to do after GCSEs are complete.”

“There is no better chance to develop than those match day experiences and under the guidance of Jay, Mike, Craig and senior first team players, the boys learn so much and will continue their progression.”

Owen added, “Pathway opportunities play a huge part in our recruitment because we can offer genuine progression for talented and hard-working players. Jay fully supports our Academy and has a great record in developing talented players so as we begin to look ahead to the next academic year, there is no better time to join our full-time set-up.”

TONBRIDGE ANGELS FOOTBALL ACADEMY OPEN TRIAL

TONBRIDGE ANGELS FOOTBALL ACADEMY are having their 1st open Trial on Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th February 2020, for September 2020 intake. The trials will be held at Hugh Christie School, TN10 4PU from 10am-12pm on both days
If you are in year 11/12, love football and want to gain qualifications then Tonbride Angels Football Academy could be for you. Tonbridge Angels Football academy is in partnership with Hugh Christie school and gives you the opportunity to study A Levels &/or BTEC courses alongside training daily and competing in fixtures every Wednesday.
In our 1st 16 months of opening we have already had the following success:

  • 8 players making 1st team debuts
  • 20 different players training with the 1st team
  • 100% BTEC level 3 sport pass rate

Bearsted FC Tournament 6/7 June 2020

Bearsted Football Club has pleasure in inviting teams from your Club to attend our Festival of Football on the weekend of 6th & 7th June 2020 at The Sports Ground, Honey Lane, Otham, ME15 8RG.

Academy, KYL & SYL Teams are welcome but may have to play up an age group.

The tournament will be 11-a-side (max 16 players per team) for the following age groups:

U12s, U13s, U14s, U15s, U16s

The tournament will be 9-a-side (max 14 players per team) for the following age groups:  U10s & U11s.

The tournament will be 7-a-side (max 12 players per team) for the following age groups:  U8s & U9s.

The tournament will be 5-a-side (max 10 players per team) for the following age groups:  U7s.

The entry fees for the Festival are £30 per team for the 5-a-side & 7-a-side tournament, £40 per team for the 9-a-side tournament and £60 per team for the 11-a-side tournament.

Match Report: Phoenix Sports U18s v VCD Athletic Youth

Phoenix Sports Youth 2 v 1 VCD Athetic Youth
1-0 Debenham (57), 1-1 Marsh (62) (pen), 2-1 Holland (90).

Phoenix Sports won their first game of the season against near neighbours VCD Athletic.

The result was in doubt until the very last minute when a deflected strike from the hard working Frankie Holland gave the home side the points.

VCD started the game brightly and had the first chance of the game on 2 minutes when Eren Musa made a good run into the box but his close range shot was well saved by home keeper Jack King.

Minutes later Musa’s through ball put Billy Marsh in on goal but his shot was blocked by a defender for a corner.

On 10 minutes Marsh’s deft pass saw Noah Agbinone race through on goal but King was quickly off his line to make a close range block on the edge of his box.

VCD’s positive start continued with Reece Mclellan’s cross finding Agbinone on the edge of the box and he made space well before hitting a shot on the turn that flew just over.

It was not until the 18th minute that Phoenix created a real opening when Holland did well to win the ball on the edge of the VCD area before flashing a low shot narrowly wide.

After this the home side had a good spell of possession with Liam Giles hitting a fierce shot on the turn at VCD keeper Harry Ebdon on 29 minutes and then shortly afterwards Daniel Westray hitting a 20 yard shot just wide.

Phoenix then nearly took the lead on 37 minutes when Jaydan Davy’s right wing corner fell to Dean Neary in the box and although his toe poked effort beat Ebdon low to his right, Ollie Aldrich was covering their right hand post and was able to hack the ball off the line to safety.

Neary then had another shot fly straight at Ebdon before the last chance of the half fell to the visitors when Marsh’s free kick found Agbinone in the box but his shot was deflected over for a corner.

Phoenix went close to opening the scoring early in the second half when Westray made a strong run down the left before cutting into the box and hitting a powerful shot that forced Ebdon into a good diving save low to his right.

VCD’s Mustafa Ouattara then turned well on the edge of the box before hitting a fierce shot that King did well to catch high above his head.

The home side then took the lead on 57 minutes when Charles Bissett launched a free kick into the VCD box where Ebdon came off his line to make a good punched clearance sending the ball out of the area but it was immediately headed back and fell to Ryan Debenham who swept the loose ball home from close range.

On the hour mark VCD had an opportunity to equalise when Mclellan’s neat through pass put Agbinone in on goal but King made a good close range block to deny the visiting striker.

However minutes later they were awarded a spot kick when Mclellan, making another good forward run, cleverly drew a foul in the box when he was brought down by Neary’s challenge.

Marsh took the penalty powerfully firing home low to the right of King, who dived the right way but could not the prevent the ball finding the bottom corner of the net.

Phoenix then had a great chance to regain the lead on 70 minutes when a high ball forward saw Ebdon race off his line to clear but perhaps being fooled by the strong wind, the ball held up and he missed his attempted clearance leaving Davy a clear run through on goal but he took an extra touch before shooting goalwards, enabling Patrick Jackson to get back and make a great clearance on the line.

Into the final minutes of this absorbing contest it was Phoenix again who went close to scoring when Giles pumped a free kick from the half way line into the VCD box where the loose ball fell to Neary whose close range shot was blocked by Ebdon.

Minutes later it was VCD who nearly scored when Harry Taylor’s pass found McLellan racing into the box but his rasping shot was well beaten away by King moving high to his right with the loose ball falling out to Harry Paul whose follow up shot flew narrowly wide.

The visitors then went close again to a winner on 89 minutes when Musa’s pass found Ouattara in the box but his shot on the turn was well saved by King diving low to his right.

Phoenix then took the points in the 90th minute when a loose ball in the box fell to Holland whose shot took a deflection off a VCD defender sending the ball looping up high and to the right of Ebdon into the net. This local derby was played in a very good spirit by both teams and well officiated by Referee Liam Vitoria.

Kings Hill FC Tournament 30/31 May 2020

After the success of previous year’s events Kings Hill Football Club has
pleasure in inviting teams to attend our 7th Annual Summer Football Tournament
on the weekend of 30th & 31st May at the
fantastic Kings Hill Sports Park, Beacon
Avenue, Kings Hill, West Malling, Kent, ME19 4QP. Matches will be played on
either grass or 3G pitches.

We will be running sections from U7’s to
U15’s as well as U10, U11, U13 & U15 Girls age groups and a Frame Football
section

*** U11 Girls and U10s will
give an opportunity to play the format of football you will be playing next
season. U10 Girls will remain at 7 a side.

NB;
Based upon FA requirements, for the U10 section (playing U11 format), players
must have attained the age of 9 years old by 31/8/19 (i.e. must not have been
playing up from U9 to U10 in the 2019/20 season).

Please
note: As with previous years there will be cup and shield competitions in most
sections meaning more games and more teams having a chance to reach a final and
win a trophy. For all age groups except U7, winners and runners up of both the Cup
and Shield only receive medals.

The tournament
is not open to academy teams. Kent Youth League teams are allowed to play in
their 2019/20 season age groups.

The age groups will be as at 2019/20 season. Please note under FA Rule

Sevenoaks Town Youth 6 v 0 VCD Athletic Youth
1-0 Deal (11), 2-0 Muzunye (12), 3-0 Edorh (29) (pen),
4-0 Edorh (54), 5-0 Edorh (59), 6-0 Duncan (68).

This was a commanding performance from league leaders Sevenoaks Town against a good battling VCD Athletic side that never gave up.

After an even start Sevenoaks had the first chance of the game on 6 minutes when Charles Greenwood’s through ball put the powerful Caleb Edorh through on goal but his fierce shot flashed into the side netting.

The visitors then had an opening with a move straight from the training ground when Joe Bolton played a short corner to the edge of the box that was dummied by Reece Mclellan, allowing the ball to run onto Eren Musa whose curling shot from the edge of the box flew just over landing on the roof of the net.

Sevenoaks then stunned VCD scoring twice in as many minutes. Firstly a Sam Harris free kick from near the half way line was pumped high into the box where it was missed by VCD keeper Harry Ebdon, perhaps blinded by the bright sunlight, the ball falling kindly for Archie Deal who bundled home from close range.

A minute later it was two as another great through pass from Greenwood saw Lovejoy Muzunye race through on goal and although Ebdon was quickly off his line to make a block on the edge of his area, the ball rebounded back off Muzunye who slotted home from an acute angle.

The Sevenoaks midfield of Greenwood, Harry Edwards, and Charlie Packard were controlling proceedings with their good distribution making it difficult for the visitors to get into the game.

On 26 minutes it was nearly three when Edorh’s pass put the tireless Edwards in on goal but his curling shot was well saved by Ebdon diving high to his left for a corner.

Minutes later another strong run into the box by Edorh was stopped when he was brought down and a penalty awarded.

This he took himself hitting the ball home slightly left of centre as Ebdon dived right. VCD nearly pulled a goal back on 37 minutes when a Sevenoaks corner was cleared up to Mustafa Ouattara on the half way line and he showed good control before racing forward but his shot from the edge of the box flew narrowly over.

Just before half time Sevenoaks dead ball specialist Harris created two further openings.

On 43 minutes his left wing cross found Edwards racing into the box but his stooping header flew just wide of the target and then on the stroke of half time a Harris free kick from wide right found Deal in the box but his header was held by Ebdon moving to his right. Sevenoaks made it four on 54 minutes when Greenwood played the ball up to Edorh who then showed great strength to bulldoze his way through the middle of the VCD defence before dribbling round the on-rushing Ebdon and tapping home.

VCD then went close to reducing the arrears when Noah Agbinone’s pass found Mclellan on the edge of the box and he made space well before hitting a rising shot that forced home keeper Nicky Tolhurst into a good save high to his left to turn the ball out for a corner.

On 59 minutes it was five as another superb Harris left wing cross found Edorh racing in at the near post and he scored with a deft shot sweeping the ball home low to the right of Ebdon and completing his hat-trick in the process.

Both were then rewarded for their excellent performances by being ‘rested’ and replaced by Elliott Duncan and Oluwatosin Afolabi, the depth of the home squad being demonstrated as both made good contributions.

On 68 minutes Sevenoaks made it six when the versatile Deal, who started at centre half and was now playing at full back, played a great through ball onto the forward run of Muzunye who raced into the area where his close range shot was blocked by Ebdon, the loose ball falling back to Muzunye who showed good composure to then square the ball across to Duncan for a simple close range tap in.

Despite falling further behind VCD never gave up and were unlucky not to get a consolation goal on 74 minutes when Mclellan’s floated cross from the left found Bolton racing in at the far post but his powerful header clipped the bar before flying over.

After this no further clear cut chances were created. The match was well officiated by Liam Vitoria who played a number of good advantages throughout to keep the game flowing. Furthermore, despite the heavy overnight frost the 3G pitch was in excellent condition.

U18 Manager Vacancy for 2020/21 Season

Dover Athletic FC are looking for a Manager for their U18 team who will be competing in the Kent Youth League next season.

The Main Club competes in the National League and therefore the Youth Section is run in a very professional manner and through our continued focus on Coach development we have a great reputation for developing players of all ages.

We are looking for a Manager who is organised, professional, dedicated and has a proven track record for offering quality coaching. A person who can motivate and encourage youth players to achieve and exceed their playing potential and guide them along their football career path.

You will need to have a current FA DBS as well as in date FA Safeguarding and First Aid certifications and have a minimum of FA Level 2 in coaching.

If you want to challenge yourself and want to work within a Youth Section that is passionate about coach & player development then this is the job for you.

Match Report: VCD Athletic vs Faversham Town Youth

VCD Athletic Youth 3 v 1 Faversham Town Youth
1-0 Ouattara (11) (pen), 2-0 Piper (31) (og), 2-1 Hardy (36) (pen),
3-1 Taaffe (67).

On a very windy day at Oakwood, VCD Athletic shaded this closely fought contest against visitors Faversham Town.

The hosts, with the strong wind behind them, started the game brightly and had their first effort on goal on 5 minutes when a long ball over the Faversham back line was seized upon by Noah Agbinone who raced into the area but his low shot was well saved by Town keeper Harrison Firth diving down to his right.

VCD then took the lead on 11 minutes from the penalty spot. The lively Reece Mclellan made a surging run into the box getting to the left bye line where he was brought down by Town full back Jack Piper. Mustafa Ouattara took the spot kick firing home to the left of Firth who dived right.

After these early chances the game settled down with neither side able to force any real openings in the difficult conditions.

The next opportunity came on 25 minutes with the strong wind playing a factor as a Joseph Bolton inswinging corner from the right was dropped by Firth as he tried to gather, the loose ball falling to Ouattara whose first time shot beat Firth to his right but was blocked on the line by Piper with the rebound falling back to Ouattara who stretching could only fire over from close range.

The visitors then had their first real effort on goal on the half hour mark when Ed Muddiman made a good run down the left before cutting inside and hitting a dipping 25 yard shot that home keeper Harry Ebdon held moving to his left.

A minute later VCD increased their lead when Mclellan’s inswing corner from the left was diverted into his own net by Piper when trying to head clear. After going two goals down Town brought on substitutes Sonny Bassett and James Geddes who made an immediate impact in midfield and helped the visitors get a foothold in the match.

Indeed they reduced the arrears on 36 minutes with a spot kick of their own when the hard working Jack Hardy made a strong run into the left side of the area where his attempted cross hit the outstretched arm of VCD defender Marley Markham.

Hardy took the resulting penalty slotting home low to the right of Ebdon who dived left.

Town then almost drew level minutes later when an Alfie Eyles ball over the VCD defence held up in the wind, leaving the on-rushing Ebdon in no man’s land as Hardy lobbed the ball over him but the ball bounced narrowly wide.

Then Geddes did well to win the ball in midfield before sending the ball through to Ed Muddiman whose powerful half volley crashed into the midriff of Ebdon.

VCD had the first opening of the second half when Joshua Taaffe’s free kick found Mclellan in the box and he dribbled along the bye line before hitting a low shot from an acute angle that Firth saved well down at his left hand post for a corner.

On 66 minutes VCD were awarded their second penalty of the game when Mclellan made another mazy run into the Town box where he was upended by Eyles.

Agbinone took the spot kick which Firth did well to save diving low to his left but Taaffe was quickest to react to the rebound and smashed the loose ball home from close range.

On 70 minutes it was nearly four when Agbinone made a good run into the box before hitting a low cross that flew across the box to the far post where a sliding/stretching Billy Marsh could only divert the ball onto the post from close range.

Into the final minutes of the game VCD went close again when Mclellan’s free kick found Taaffe on the right of the area and he turned well before sending over a low cross that found Eren Musa sliding in at the far post but his effort went wide.

On 83 minutes VCD should have scored again when Mclellan made a strong run from the half way line into the box but with an unmarked Ouattara to his right he chose to shoot himself and fired his effort at Firth.

VCD had managed the game well in the second half but the visitors had one last chance on 89 minutes to get a second when the versatile Owen Hewitt got through on goal but his shot flew narrowly wide of goal.

This was an enjoyable game despite the windy conditions with both sides trying to get the ball down and play passing football.

The match was well officiated by Referee Liam Vitoria who helped the game flow by playing a number of good advantages throughout proceedings.

0-1 Jallim (7), 1-1 Giles (18), 2-1 Debenham (26), 2-2 Jallim (33).

Phoenix Sports picked up their first point of the season with a resolute display against visitors Glebe, who dominated for long periods of the match but could not force a winner.

After an even start it was Glebe who had the first chance of the game on 6 minutes when a Jonas Whitmore free kick from wide left found the run of Ben James to the near post but stooping to reach the ball he could only direct his header wide of the goal.

A minute later the visitors did take the lead through a great solo goal from Tafari Jallim, who dribbled into the box leaving a couple of Phoenix defenders in his wake before calmly slotting home low to the right of home keeper Kieran Bennett.

It might have been two on 16 minutes when a James left wing cross found an unmarked Louis Henry racing into the box but his header flew narrowly wide. Minutes later the home side drew level with a fine bit of skill from Liam Giles.

Jimmy Grant sent over a corner from the right that was cleared out to the edge of the box where Giles hit a low right foot shot that was blocked by a Glebe defender sending the ball rebounding back to him and this time he fired in a left shot that flew through the crowded box and beat the unsighted Glebe keeper Ted McDonald low to his left as the ball found the bottom corner of the net.

This goal gave the home side confidence and they nearly took the lead on 22 minutes when Taylan Ali-Osman’s through ball put Daniel Westray in on goal but McDonald quickly narrowed the angle and made a good close range block. Good defending from Phoenix centre half Dean Neary then prevented Glebe taking the lead with a fine last ditch challenge on Jallim as he was about to shoot with only Bennett to beat.

Phoenix then went ahead from another Grant corner from the right when the ball was again cleared out to the edge of the box where Ryan Debenham hit a stunning volley that beat a diving McDonald high to his right, the Glebe keeper getting a hand to the powerful shot but could not prevent the ball crashing into the top corner of the net.

Just after the half hour mark Glebe equalised when the tireless Max Leeves sent over a deep cross from the right wing that flew over the outstretched arm of Bennett finding an unmarked Jallim for a simple tap in from close range.

This turned out to be the last chance of an eventful first half.

The second half was dominated by Glebe with Whitmore and Leeves pulling the strings in midfield for the visitors. On 50 minutes Jallim made another mazy run into the box on the left side of the area before squaring the ball across to Opeyemi Abiru whose fierce shot was well saved by Bennett diving high to his left pushing the ball onto the bar before it was cleared away to safety.

On 57 minutes Glebe had another good opportunity to take the lead when Sam Braddick’s free kick from wide right found Joshua Crispin rising highest in the box but he got under the ball and his header flew over from close range.

On the hour mark the visitors went close gain when Whitmore’s right wing corner fell to Leeves whose shot on the turn flashed just over the bar. Jallim then fired a long range effort over before on 70 minutes Rashaar Smikle’s right wing cross was met by a fine diving header from Jallim that brought out another good save from Bennett diving low to his right.

On 78 minutes Glebe hit the bar again when another Smikle right wing cross found Leeves rising highest at the far post, his header beat Bennett high to his left but rebounded off the bar to James, whose close range shot was blocked on the line by a Phoenix defender which sent the ball back out to James whose follow up header was plucked out of the air by Bennett diving to his left.

A sweeping passing move from Glebe almost set up a winner when Leeves found Abiru who in turn put Jallim through on goal but Bennett made a good close range block for a corner. From this taken by Abiru the ball fell to Leeves at the far post who stretching could only direct his close range header over the bar.

This turned out to be the last chance of a most enjoyable game played in a very good spirit and well officiated by Daniel Blades.

Match Report: Sevenoaks Town vs Glebe

On a cold chilly day this match was an excellent advert for the Kent Youth League with two good footballing sides playing attractive passing football .

It was a fairly uneventful start with the first opening not coming until the 16th minute when Rashaar Smirkle’s throughball put Louis Henry in on goal but Sevenoaks keeper Nicky Tolhurst was quickly off his line to make a good block on the edge of his box.

Minutes later Smirkle made space well on the edge before hitting a fierce dipping shot that Tolhurst gathered moving to his left. The home side then took the lead on 21 minutes with a goal that had a touch of fortune to it.

The impressive Sam Harris sent over a deep corner from the left to the far post which fell to Lovejoy Muzunye who flicked the ball back into the crowded goalmouth where a Glebe defender in trying to clear smashed the ball against Elliot Duncan sending the ball flying back into the net. It was two shortly afterwards when Duncan’s floated free kick from wide left deceived the stretching Glebe keeper Ted McDonald as the ball sailed over his outstretched arm and into the top far corner of the net. Muzunye then had a shot from the edge of the box fly just over before on 28 minutes Sevenoaks were awarded another free kick some 25 yards from goal.

Their free kick specialist Duncan bent the ball around the Glebe defensive wall but this time McDonald moving smartly to his left made the save.

Glebe centre forward Smirkle was looking dangerous every time he got the ball and just after the half hour mark he turned well before hitting a powerful shot that flashed narrowly wide.

Then good closing down by Sevenoaks almost earned them a third goal when Sam Braddick’s attempted clearance was charged down by Caleb Edorh, the ball flying to Duncan who stretching managed to toe poke it goalwards but McDonald was able to get down low to his left and turn it out for a corner. Glebe then pulled a goal back on 35 minutes when a Jonas Whitmore corner from the right found the run of the unmarked Braddick to the near post, who stooping was able to head the ball home low to the left of Tolhurst.

A sweeping passing move then nearly saw Sevenoaks restore their two goal margin as Charlie Pickard’s crossfield pass found the run of Harris down the left and he raced forward before whipping over a deep cross that flew over McDonald but landed on the roof of the net.

Just before half time the home side went close again when a Harry Edwards pass put Edorh in on goal on the left of the area and he cut back inside and hit a rasping drive that McDonald saved well low at his right hand post.

It was the visitors who had the first chance of the second half when Ben James, with the wind behind him, hit a 35 yard speculative shot that thudded into the chest of Tolhurst.

Mis-communication in the Glebe defence then gifted Sevenoaks a third from Braddick’s back pass to McDonald, who had advanced off his line to receive the ball but slipped as it was reaching him and could only slice it back into his own net.

The visitors were not discouraged by this mishap and had a good spell of possession as they tried to get back into the match.

Firstly Whitmore’s deft pass put Oscar Powell in on goal but Tolhurst was quickly off his line to make a good close range save before Kai George had a 25 yard shot fly narrowly over.

Glebe did reduce the arrears on 58 minutes with another bizarre goal when McDonald’s wind assisted free kick from the half way line was allowed to bounce in the crowded box by the Sevenoaks defence and with Tolhurst, perhaps put off by the multitude of players in front of him, unmoving as the ball flew into the top corner of his net.

Glebe then drew level through a superb strike from Powell, who picking the ball up some 25 yards from goal rifled home an unstoppable shot that flew home high to the left of Tolhurst.

Having been pegged back it was then the turn of the home side to have the majority of the play as they looked to regain the lead.

Muzunye had a shot on the turn saved by McDonald before Dio Sartori’s excellent lofted pass put Edorh in on goal but his low shot was well saved by McDonald diving to his left.

On 77 minutes another good passing Sevenoaks move saw Sartori’s pass find Duncan down the left who in turn played in the over-lapping Harris who dribbled into the area where his close range shot was blocked by McDonald.

Another mix-up in the Glebe defence on 83 minutes looked as if it would gift the home side all the points when a long ball forward was headed back by Braddick to his keeper, who had unfortunately ventured off his line to cut out the original pass, leaving the ball bouncing towards the un-guarded goal with Muzunye just getting to it and firing it home from close range before McDonald could get back.

However amazingly a minute later Glebe were again level when James’s long ball into the box was neatly touched home from close range by Tafari Jallim low to the left of Tolhurst. Duncan then had a free kick from wide left fly narrowly wide across the face of goal before in stoppage time Paul Driver had a long range shot fly just over.

Dartford Whites continued their perfect start to the season when winning their sixth successive league game against a battling Crockenhill side.

On a heavy uneven surface Dartford dominated the game for long periods.

They had an early chance on 5 minutes when the lively Max Carey sent over a right wing cross that fell to Daniel Watson at the far post but his low shot was saved by Nathan Snelgrove diving forward to gather.

Minutes later another Carey cross found the run to the near post of Rio Dharmi whose powerful first time volley was well saved by Snelgrove as the ball crashed into his chest. After these chances the visitors forced a succession of corners that the Crockenhill defence did well to repel.

On 18 minutes brave keeping by Snelgrove prevented a certain goal when Watson’s flighted free kick was nodded down by Tommy Whittington for Frankie Hughes, who had his close range shot on the turn well blocked by the Crockenhill custodian.

Shortly afterwards the visitors hit the woodwork when Whittington’s curling free kick from the edge of the box deflected off the top of the home defensive wall sending the ball looping high to the right of the stretching Snelgrove onto the bar and out to safety.

However on 22 minutes Dartford made the breakthrough when Watson’s free kick from wide right was not cleared with Marvin Herschel reacting quickest to toe poke the loose ball home from close range.

A few minutes later Dartford doubled their lead after Carey’s low driven shot from wide right had beaten Snelgrove to his right but was blocked on the line by Phil Domaradzki , Whittington seized on the rebound firing it home high to the left of Snelgrove.

The home side then went close to pulling a goal back when Daniel O’Neill launched a 40 yard free kick into the Dartford box which Mason Tarrant back headed narrowly over.

Dartford’s Carey then made space well in the box before hitting a low shot that flashed across the face of goal and clipped Snelgrove’s right hand post before flying out. Just after the half hour mark another Whittington free kick caused problems for the home defence with the ball falling to Brandon Davey whose fierce shot was well saved by Snelgrove low to his right.

On 37 minutes Whittington’s right wing corner found the run of Hughes to the near post but his towering header flew over.

The last chance of the first half saw Davey make space well some 25 yards from goal and hit a low shot that Snelgrove saved moving to his left.

The second half continued with the visitors on the offensive. On 48 minutes they went close to making it three when Billy Sheppard’s left wing cross was punched out by Snelgrove to Watson’s whose low shot beat the home keeper to his right but was hacked away off the line to safety by O’Neill.

On 54 minutes the home side went close to reducing the deficit when O’Neill’s excellent deep left wing cross found Rhys Draper racing in at the far post but he could only direct his first time volley into the side netting.

Dartford then went close to extending their lead when Sheppard’s through ball put Herschel in on goal but with only Snelgrove to beat he steered his shot narrowly wide.

However the visitors did make it three on 63 minutes when Carey’s deep left wing cross flew over the stretching Snelgrove and found Kieran Ellis at the far post for a close range tap in.

Watson’s right wing cross then found Dharmi but his hooked volley flew over before the impressive Whittington hit a 25 yard shot that Snelgrove saved well low to right for a corner. A sweeping Dartford move on 74 minutes saw them then make it four when Ellis’s cross field pass found the run of Watson into the box and he took a touch before slotting home low to the right of the exposed Snelgrove.

The busy Snelgrove then made his only mistake of the game when his attempted clearance fell straight to Whittington some 40 yards from goal and although his lobbed shot flew over the out of position keeper it drifted just wide of the goal.

On 80 minutes it was five when a cross to the edge of the box was nodded into the area by Sheppard finding Hughes, whose header was blocked by the body of Snelgrove but the loose ball fell to Dharmi who scored from close range.

The last chance of the game also fell to the visitors when Ellis’s right wing cross found Dharmi whose low shot on the turn brought another good save out of Snelgrove.

There were a number of good performances from the visitors but centre back Joshua Wigmore caught the eye with his composure on the ball as did midfielder Whitington with his tireless running and tackling and good ball distribution.
