Kent Under 16s Win South East Counties
The Under 16s put the first trophy of the season firmly back in the hands of Kent with a convincing 3-1 away at Surrey the current holders in last nights game at Molsey.
2 goals from Tom Collins, and 1 from Josh Kennedy secured the 3 points that Kent needed to finish unbeaten and top of the group.
This is yet further evidence of the emerging talent in this County and is only the 3rd time Kent have won this competition which began in 1972/73. 2000/2001, 2007/2008, and now 2009/2010 which is an excellent achievement.
My thanks go to my coaching staff Gary Farr, Simon Balsdon and the "boys" Tom Parkinson and Deren Ibrahim for their hard work from the trials to preparation for each game, to the members of the committee who turn out in all sorts of weather to support what we are trying to do, to the Parents whose support for this group has been excellent, and most of all to the players who have listened and taken onto the pitch what we have asked them to do.
They have been a credit to their families, their clubs and to themselves, and they should be very proud of what they have achieved. The trophy and medals will be formally presented at the end of season presentation.
My thanks go also to Diane and Claire (Mrs B and Junior) for their wonderful support which makes it special for me to have my own family around.
It is a team effort and as was pointed out last night, this is the first time we have won any competition during my time on the field. The other 2 competition wins at Under 16s and Under 18s were decided by other matches on the field of play.
I am very proud of the players and we look forward to working with them into the future as they step up to Under 18 football next season.
A full match report will be on the site soon.
