60 win local derby!

BRAGGING RIGHTS RETAINED

Chatham Town 1 - 4 Real 60 (Under 15 South Division, 7.3.2010)

Real 60 made the mile or so trip to play Chatham Town and came away with not only the three points but also local bragging rights, ensuring their players could go to school this week with a smile.

The weather had changed from the previous week leaving a clear sky, which found many spectators pointing upwards at some strange yellow ball in the firmament; the football on offer in the first twenty minutes was all a bit depressing. The only action of note being a smart one-handed save by Dannea Wright to deny a Town forward. It didn’t really get that much better even after Tom Wooldridge gave the 60 boys’ the lead with Dan King doubling that advantage before half time while Jason Fregene came close to adding to the total with a jumping volley that drifted inches over. Everything was coming to a halt on the edge of the home side’s area with their own forays into the Real danger zone being sent down dead ends by a defence of Stephen Skeete, Ryan Carey, Jake Leigh, Jamie Wood, Nathan Gambrill and Luke Aldridge (the advantage of rolling substitutes).

The second half was a few minutes old when a fine ball from William Davis to Ashley Sains resulted in the latter causing the net to bulge. Chatham gave themselves a glimmer of hope with a fine strike from twenty-five yards but that chink of light was extinguished when Sains out muscled a defender with a good old-fashioned shoulder charge to make the game safe. It could have been more but Liam Wilkins, Jordan Wells and Stephen Munn saw chances go the wrong side of an upright. Chatham also had a couple of decent opportunities late on but their finishing was awry. One player who didn’t make an appearance was Oliver Chao. Though he was carrying an injury, he’s still a valued member of the squad so deserves a mention.

The win keeps 60 in the hunt for league honours.
