Flisher hits winner as Kent grab 3 points

The Under 18s won a tight fought match against London this afternoon continuing the good run of results that the team is experiencing. Against a strong and competitive London side the result was always in doubt right up to the end of the game.

We played against the wind in the first half and slightly uphill and probably didn't recognise how difficult it made it to play in the first half. However, we did come closest to scoring when Rob Carter headed inches wide from a set piece. Andy Williams worked hard against a strong back 4 and created a number of good runs which we didn't get in on the end of. At half time both teams probably felt the score was fair and both probably thought they could win the game.

Just after half time, Alex Fleisher delivered a corner and from the confusion it caused Rob stooped to head past London's keeper. As we expected London then started to push forward and created one or two good chances , one of which saw Michael Scott make an excellent block when a goal looked likely.

From a free kick London equalised with a neat move and it was game on. We brought Adam Woollcott on for Perry, and Sam for Andy who had worked so hard again for the team. One run in the second half showed all in the potential the player has, but he is first a foremost a top team player.

Jack Rankin playing his first game of the season in goal, then launched a drop kick which travelled 80 metres to Alex Fleisher who with his sweet left foot (I will remind you all again I am from the left foot school myself!!!), chipped the ball delightfully over the London keeper for a 2-1 lead.

London then threw everything at us going 3 up front, and whilst there were a few half chances I was delighted with the way the team defended and secured the result.

Both sides now move on to the County F A Youth Cup next weekend and we wish Steve and the London players all the best in their tie.

We now prepare for Dorset next Saturday and will be able to welcome back influential Harry Harding who served his one match suspension today for his 2 yellow cards in Jersey.

Thanks to all parents, friends, committee members who braved the elements to support the team. We can't always thank you individually but your support for what we are trying to achieve is greatly appreciated.

It put us back on track to compete at the top end of this competition, which we feel is very important in our development. Again we had only 3 year 2 players today which augurs so well for the future.
