Safeguarding children in football
As part of the Football Association’s policy (based on Government Legislation) to ensure that Children and vulnerable persons are safeguarded whilst participating in football it has been ruled that
WITH EFFECT FROM THE COMMENCEMENT OF SEASON 2008/2009 IT WILL BE MANDATORY FOR EACH CLUB TO HAVE A CLUB WELFARE OFFICER IN PLACE.
All of us who are involved in football have a legal and moral responsibility to ensure the safety and protection of children and vulnerable persons – hence the decision outlined above.
The Welfare Officer (CWO) will hold a position of significant responsibility therefore it is essential that all appointees are ‘fit and proper persons’ to hold such a position.
All Welfare Officers will:
- Have attended an FA Safeguarding Children in Football Workshop
- Completed a CRB Enhanced Disclosure via the FA CRB Unit
Full details of the Role and Responsibilities of the CWO are available from the KCFA.
Full training will be provided for Welfare Officers and it will be mandatory for all appointees to attend the Welfare Officers Workshop
If you have any queries regarding being a club welfare officer or have just volunteered to be your club representative please contact the Kent Youth Leagues welfare officer – Julie Hoare (gavref2@tesco.net)
